Tumblr narrowly beats Posterous in Mashable readers' poll

Who's the favorite in the "simple blogging" category? Well, in Mashable's neighborhood, Tumblr got 51% of the vote, with Posterous at a respectable 42%.

When we consider that Posterous is still somewhat wet behind the ears that's a really great showing. Leveraging what people already know to do, such as emailing and attaching photos, etc., is making Posterous a fave. Adding themes (including pulling in Tumblr's) is going to help, too.

Posterous gets themes, allows imports from Tumblr

Posterous, the popular minimalist blogging service, just released a major update to its service, which includes customizable themes, a feature a lot of users had been waiting for. Users can now choose between five different themes, all of which are highly customizable. According to the company, additional themes will be added over time. Users can now also easily import their Tumblr blogs and even use their Tumblr themes as Posterous now also supports the Tumblr theme format. Posterous also announced that its traffic grew tenfold over the last 12 months to 4.4 million unique visits last month.

As you may be able to tell, Posterous has gotten themes. Here's a laudatory bit from ReadWriteWeb. I love Posterous (enough to run my eponymous domain through it) and will probably do more with it in months ahead.
