  • I'm a Christian, a writer, domainer, early adopter, musician, and recovering lawyer.

Blessed to serve the good people of Harvest Time Church in Greenwich, Conn. as Associate Pastor since 2003. I direct the discipleship ministries at the church and occasionally they even let me lead worship.

That all keeps me hopping but I do find time to enjoy working on some Web projects and I manage a daily devotional blog called The Daily Spurgeon and a website for Connecticut Christians called Pray Connecticut.

In my spare time I enjoy domaining and doing some dropcatching, listening to my kids laugh, and losing to my wife in Scrabble.

Phone calls on Twitter?!

Twitter users on Thursday will, for the first time, be able to make voice calls directly to each other through the microblogging service.

A new third-party offering from Jajah known as Jajah@call is expected to go into beta Thursday morning that will allow Twitter users to initiate a two-way voice chat with other users by typing "@call @username"--where "username" is someone's Twitter ID--into any Twitter client. During the beta period, the company said, the calls will be limited to two minutes, but the company will evaluate that length during beta. However, it sees the two minute period--after which the call will end--as "the verbal equivalent of a tweet."

According to Jajah, an Internet communications provider with tens of millions of users, the service will allow a user to place a call to any other user, so long as the second person follows the first on Twitter and both have Jajah accounts. The service is free to use and is expected to work on any Twitter-enabled device, from PCs to smart phones.

Ads on Twitter - here we go

Media_httpwwwreadwritewebcomimagestwitteradslivejpg_fohorunthsoebay

So far the only two sponsored links we've seen cycle through our sidebars have been to the ad network Federated Media's Microsoft microsite ExecTweets.com (aggregating Twitter messages from corporate executives) and Universal Studios' CinemaTweets.com, promoting the allegedly offensive forthcoming gay-face movie Bruno. The ads only appear on the home page of Twitter when a user is logged in, not when looking at another user's profile page. Also included in the cycle is a link to a joint Twitter and Threadless.com microsite where visitors can buy Threadless t-shirts about Twitter. Apparently that doesn't constitute a sponsored link, but presumably money is changing hands somewhere. The whole world of Twitter is a green-field when it comes to rules of disclosure.

Perhaps these sources of revenue will help Twitter remain a viable company long enough for all kinds of questions about this brand new medium to be explored.

The new follower and following pages are awesome and so much more useful now. Glad we can block and then see spammy and nasty followers disappear...
